Dr. Sam Nawfel presented a well-researched and inspiring talk on Sunday, February 24th, after Liturgy. He gave a survey history of the Jewish population of Greece, and then focused on the fate of the Greek Jews during the Nazi occupation of Greece in the Second World War. The efforts by many Greeks, especially church bishops and clergy and civil authorities, in cities such as Thessaloniki, Volos and, especially, Athens to save Jews from deportation to the death camps were heroic and quite exceptional in Europe. The full text of Sam’s talk is presented here for your edification. It is full of fascinating and inspiring historical information that you never learned from any other sources. It is a tremendous read! Thank you, Sam, for doing the work of researching and presenting this important topic.
