Spiritual Formation

We don’t teach ‘spirituality’; we practice ‘spiritual formation.’ There is a huge difference. As Orthodox Christians we are in a lifelong journey to deification, theosis. We understand our place in God’s purposes the more our lives become Christ-illumined and Christ-oriented. Our journey to deification is rooted in Liturgy and the wealth of classic teachings and experience found in the Orthodox tradition.

People think we need more programs and more activities. But it’s programs and activities that have emptied churches in this country – because our programs and activities lose out when they compete with sports and social media. It’s not programs that we need; it’s spiritual formation. And that is the path to growth that Holy Trinity Church is presently pursuing. Come and share the journey!

PRAYER is at the core of spiritual formation. There is a prayer by St. Maximos the Confessor, a great saint of the 7th century, that helps orient us and prepare us for spiritual growth. It speaks of beauty and “singing with the silent voices of the intellect” the praises of the mysteries of God.
