Art of Reconciliation

Wendy Patterson recently responded to some of the interviews posted on the Archdiocese website about racial reconciliation. She gave permission to share her thoughts:

I watched & listened to the 1st of the series on racial reconciliation on the website. It was very moving in many ways. Personally it was interesting to hear how Fr. Moses & Fr. T (? Name) came to Orthodoxy through liturgical music and icons, as I did. Afterwards, an idea came to me.

The young people in our parish might benefit from a connection to the St. Moses the Black Fellowship. I was thinking of the children in Sunday School that I have come to know and have wondered how they were handling the turmoil around us. Then I thought of your acolyte, Moses, and what a fine young man he is. All of your acolytes are wonderful, but Moses seems to have leadership qualities. Perhaps a connection to the St. Moses the Black Fellowship might be fruitful. But what do I know? I’m way into deep water here and just sharing this with you, who knows those waters better than I.

Below see some recently rediscovered paintings that I am working on. This is how I can deal with the turmoil. These were children our son knew in Senegal when he was a Peace Corps volunteer 10 years ago.

Here is the link to the website of the St. Moses the Black Fellowship that Wendy referred to: http://mosestheblack.org/. It’s well worth looking at. Wendy has a unique artistic gift and she fills her art with spiritual humanism.
