“The Maine Balkan Choir was formed in 1998 and until now we have focused on the a capella music of Bulgaria,” said Joe Niemczura, organizer of the event. “We decided to show solidarity with the people by singing in Ukrainian. We are honored to present our music in the Greek Orthodox Church because the acoustics are so good. The iconography in the sanctuary reminds us of being in eastern Europe. Songs have been chosen that speak to family life, the season of planting, and of oourse, some love songs.”
