Philoptochos Activities and Fundraisers
Fellowship
Philoptochos hosts Fellowship the third Sunday of each month (unless otherwise requested by others).
Lambropsomo (Easter Bread) Fundraiser
Each year Philoptochos bakes Lambropsomo prior to Easter. Those in the greater Portland community look forward to the delicious breads baked just in time for Easter celebrations.
Palm Sunday Luncheon Co-Hosted with AHEPA
A Palm Sunday Luncheon is co-hosted by AHEPA and Philoptochos each year. This event requires pre-paid reservations.
Philoptochos Scholarships
In the spring Philoptochos awards up to three (3) scholarships to students from the Holy Trinity Parish. To be eligible students must be Maine high school seniors, members of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, have academic standing of 85 GPA or better, be involved in their high school, the community, and Holy Trinity Church. Applications are available in early March and scholarships are announced in May.
Holiday Pastry Sale and Vasilopita
A major fundraiser for Philoptochos is the Vasilopita and Holiday Pastry Sale. In addition to the Vasilopita bread freshly baked by Philoptochos members, the bake sale offers a variety of other delicious pastries that can include Baklava, Finikia, Kourambiedes, and Koulourakia.
